Our Story

Helen Gray Interior Design is a Surrey-based studio. We offer both a complete Interior Design service and several smaller, more spontaneous, services too.

The main package runs from spatial planning, to construction and installation, to the final touches of styling. If you don’t need help on quite that scale, we can offer two smaller packages: our Design Only Service and Designer On Call.

The first of these is pretty self-explanatory: we draw up a detailed plan for you to implement. It’s ideal for clients who are happy to undertake the work required and necessary purchasing, but who lack the design skills to find the ideal solution for their needs. With Design Only Service, that’s our job — you do the rest!

Then, Designer on Call is ideal for immediate problem-solving. We can step in to help you over a particular bump in the road — if you’re stuck, say, for ideas about colours, furnishing, or finishes — we can guide you to an answer.

At the core of our success is a bulging contacts book of trusted and skilled crafts and tradesmen, plus we deal with a wide variety of suppliers. Put the two together and it ensures that we create inviting and timeless interiors. Of course, we always aim to deliver on time and to budget!

Meet Helen

A passion for home has been with Helen for as long as she can remember — and her home is Surrey. She was born and grew up there and feels deeply connected to the area and its wonderful lifestyle. She loves its fabulous combination of green spaces and sophistication.

Her career path has been interesting and unusual. She studied for three years at the University for the Creative Arts, graduating in 2013. She was taught at UCA’s Farnham campus, which specialises in top-class art and design.

She then had an exciting four years with one of the UK’s leading companies specialising in Film and TV set design and construction. Their clients ranged from Lady Gaga (yes, Helen did meet her!) to the set designers of Open All Hours and One Direction.

Next was a period in creative property marketing, critiquing design and gaining further experience in managing real, live construction. But her passion for home and design won out and she went back to studying, graduating from The Institute of Interior Design.

Helen says: “This has led me to build my own design space, and my team and I now help lots of clients with big and small houses to create the perfect space for them. I define this as producing design solutions that resonate with with individual styles”.

Helen’s authenticity, honesty and an unwavering passion for home and design is brought out in every project and she believes that it’s not just about creating spaces; it’s about crafting homes that resonate with individuality.

Her designs emphasise creating warm and cosy homes that have glimpses of trend-setting pieces with a timeless spine. She adds texture, layers and interest to a space, often creating bespoke storage solutions, in organic materials, for cramped or multi-use rooms.

Finally, Helen takes pride in communicating with clients and brings a joy to every aspect of the design process.
